Beach soccer relishes Magogo appointment
May 10, 2017
"Our efforts to keep promoting the sport in the region will go even further with the chairman (Magogo) coming from within."
Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA) chairman Deo Mutabazi is elated by FUFA president Moses Magogo's appointment to head the CAF Futsal and Beach Soccer Organising Committee.
He says Magogo's being at the helm will help the sport grow even faster in Uganda.
UBSA plans to host its first edition of the Muwanguzi Memorial Cup at Lido beach, Entebbe this Sunday.
"Our efforts to keep promoting the sport in the region will go even further with the chairman (Magogo) coming from within. I expect finances and logistics towards the sport to improve because he understands how we have been operating," said Mutabazi.
UBSA whose membership in the FUFA assembly was approaved in 2012 has been running with minimal support from the federation but Mutabazi now believes the trend will change.
Magogo is expected to officiate at the one-day Muwanguzi Memorial Cup as his first activity since his appointment as he returns from Bahrain.
Eighteen beach soccer teams will compete in the Muwanguzi Memorial Cup.
The Cup is named in remembrance of former UBSA patron and owner of Lido beach and one of their founders Samson Muwanguzi, who offered to host all beach soccer competitions there for years.
Muwanguzi passed way last year.
UBSA chairman Deo Mutabazi said: "He offered free venue for all our activities and remained very instrumental in all UBSA activities -- something that kept us moving."
