Two UPDF officers, who were on Tuesday convicted for attacking Mbuya Barracks in 2013, have been sentenced to 15 years in prison each by the Court Martial based in Makindye.

The Court presided over by Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti convicted Lt. Augustine Moro, 30, and Pte. Kenneth Kalokwera, 35, of charges relating to security.

While awarding the sentence, the court considered the 5 years the convicts had spent on remand at Makindye Military Barracks.

In his ruling, Gutti stated that prosecution proved that Moro recruited Kalokwera and commanded others who are still at large to attack Mbuya Barracks.

"It is court's finding that Moro and Kalokwera formed a common intention to attack Mbuya Barracks. I therefore convict them accordingly," Gen. Gutti ruled.

According to the court chairman, the accused's participation in the attack has been proved by prosecution beyond reasonable doubt.
