A little under two months ahead of the 2017 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup Championships due in China,  a provisional team that will represent Uganda has been named by local basketball governing body FUBA.

The juniors team head coach Hamza Nyambogo announced an eight-strong young team who started preps on Saturday at Mengo Secondary School ahead of the June 28 world event.

Yusuf Budda, Arnorld Kiseka, Rajab Mpima, Victor Bwana Ayinebyoona, Abbey Kasilwe and Henry Okoth are part of the list.

For their preparation, the players will also be joined by Kenyan players Joseph Dramaza and 2015 junior National Basketball Association (NBA) MVP Fayed Baale who will impart their experience skill to the Ugandan side set on making a first ever appearance at the championships.

According to Nyambogo, the players will also have to represent the country in the FIBA U16 African zone 5 qualifiers set for June 1-4 in Mombasa, Kenya prior to the 3x3 World Cup Championships.

The U16 Zone 5 qualifiers will serve as a preparatory session for the players ahead of the six-day event.

"The U16 qualifiers will help us assess the players as well as selection of the final team that will represent Uganda in China," said the coach.

After the regional qualifiers, the final team will undergo a two-week intensive training camp before they set off for China.

Uganda, USA, Venezuela, Egypt, Singapore, Italy, Russia, France and hosts China are some of the anticipated countries to take part in the 2017 edition.
