Some of the youth expressed worry about the unfavourable weather conditions

The youth in Katakwi district have been trained on the growing of mangoes.

The training which was conducted across sub counties in Katakwi district was an initiative from the office of the Katakwi RDC Ambrose Mwesigye aimed at boosting the success of operation wealth creation among the youth.

Speaking to New Vision, Mwesigye said the training targeted 100 youth per sub county with each individual expected to grow 63 seedlings worth an acre of mangoes.

Mwesigye urged the youth to comply with the training to be able to avoid messing up Operation Wealth Creation program.

George Osege, the agricultural officer of Katakwi district said, the youth were trained on land management and tree management.

Osege urged the youth to boost mango growing to enhance effective running of the fruit factory in Soroti district.

However some of the youth expressed worry about the unfavourable weather conditions and limited land to establish the farms.

Julius Otikiro, the youth chairperson of Toroma Sub County said he appreciated the training but appealed to the district leadership to have the program sustainable.
