NIC's assistant captain Rachael Nanyonga was impressed with the spirit her teammates exhibited when the insurance side thumped Zanzibar's KVZ netball team 63-27 in their first game at the East and Central Africa Netball Championship.

Nanyonga, on top of scoring 21 goals for her team, she also played a role in creating opportunities for NIC's goal shooter Martha Soigi who netted the rest of the goals that put the insurance side top of the pool B table with 2pts.

"No victory comes single-handedly in netball that's why am commending my teammates for that fighting spirit. Our major aim this time is to reclaim what was ours and am very sure if we continue like this, we shall win the title," Nanyonga said.

But ahead of today's fixture that was yet to be realized after the technical meeting that was ongoing at press time, NIC are expected to either play Kenya Prisons, Kenyatta Hospital or fellow home team KCCA in the other group stage matches at the weeklong event at Nyayo Stadium.

Meanwhile, the other Ugandan side and defending champions Prisons have also kicked off the regional show in high gear after they beat Wulinzi 55-22 in the opening match that was held late on Sunday.
