The chairperson say they suffer due to budget cuts.

KAMPALA - The national youth council wants parliament to allocate them an independent vote from that of the ministry of gender, labor and social development to assist them perform their duties better.

Council chairperson Lilian Aber says that even though they are allocated sh1bn in a financial year, but that every time the gender ministry faces financial constraints it's their budget that is affected first.

When that happens, she added, they end up getting around sh20m every quarter instead of the sh250m.

Aber said that the law that set up the council provides for it to have an independent vote and hence they would like to have this established to ensure that their workplan is not affected by budget cuts.
