Inspectors were challenged to begin clamping down on schools without operational licenses

Criticism has been directed at education officials in Soroti district for failing to inspect schools and regulate private schools.

Daniel Emou, the chairperson Katine Grassroot Parliament in Katine Sub County, castigated education officials for failing to inspect and regulate private schools.

He asserts that education officials failing to inspect schools contributes to the increasing number of unlicensed private schools.

According to Emou, most private schools in the municipality are operating illegally and in dilapidated structures under the watch of education officials.

He noted that this has a negative bearing on learners as some of them don't have reference text books for teachers.

A visibly angry speaking Emou challenged inspectors of schools to begin clamping down on those without operational licenses instead of waiting for school terms to begin.

However the district inspector of schools Simon Emoru Anago said that they are in advanced stages compiling a list of schools to be clamped down.

According to him, schools without operational licenses will be closed and cannot reopened for second term as per government directive.
