Lira Diocese sets Golden Jubilee celebrations in motion

Lira Catholic Diocese is set to celebrate its 50^th anniversary in 2018.

The Jubilee announcement was made by the diocese's Bishop Joseph Franzeli at Lira Cathedral Church on Saturday during vigil mass and Sunday's Easter mass.

"Today in Lira Cathedral I personally launched the beginning of this journey of preparation ahead of the Golden Jubilee celebration. The parish priests have done the same throughout the diocese," Franzeli said.

A number of activities including renovation and enlargement of Uganda Martyrs Cathedral Church are to take place.

The theme of the celebration is "The Church-Family-of-God, led by the word, nourished by the Eucharist and sent out to the world by the Spirit to communicate love, reconciliation, unity and peace"

According to Franzeli, the central organizing committee has already been formed as well as finance and liturgy committees.

He said Police has already granted the diocese permission to start the fundraising.

He also disclosed the account at Centenary Bank Lira Branch (GOLDEN JUBILEE LIRA DIOCESE: A/C Number 3201504662) now active for financial contributions to facilitate the activities.

Lira Diocese was carved from Gulu Diocese and officially began on the 12^th of July 1968.
