"We are celebrating Passover of the new covenant that shows the love for people. Through this, we also encourage brotherhood," he said.

In celebration of the Passover, which marks the day Jesus shared supper with his disciples; Christians from World Mission Society Church have donated blood to the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service (UBTS).

The blood donation took place at Ambassador House in Kampala on Thursday.

According to Nelson Tatenda, the head of church's branch in Uganda, blood donation by church members signifies their desire to save lives of people who are in need of blood.

"We are celebrating Passover of the new covenant that shows the love for people. Through this, we also encourage brotherhood," he said.

Micheal Mukondane, the acting principal Blood Donor Recruiter at UBTS, said blood has never been enough in hospitals and blood bank itself.

"Blood comes and goes. We have never had enough blood," he says, adding that more organisation, individuals and corporate companies should come on board and donate blood.

Theo Tibihika, the central division (KCCA) Town Clerk, said if everyone in the country donates blood, there would be enough blood in the blood bank. However, he said some are either not willing or fear to donate blood.

Donors speak out

Mercy Linda Namulese said through blood donation; they are spreading the love of Jesus Christ to the neighbours who are in need of blood.

John-Brian Kataabu said such donations encourage the rest of the public to follow suit and also donate. "We hope at the end other churches and organisation will come on board and donate blood," he said.

Jane-Suzan Esaete says since Jesus shed his blood for the salvation of mankind, Christians should also do the same through charitable activities like blood donation.

"We imitate Jesus' example of his blood that was shed for man's salvation. Some people are in hospitals and need blood," she said.
