Kamuli is holding the by-election after Rehema Watongola was ejected from Parliament

Security in Kamuli has been beefed up ahead of Wednesday's by-election in Kamuli.

Whereas the by-election has attracted five contestants, the race is firmly between FDC's Proscovia Salaamu Musumba and NRM's Rehema Watongola.

At about 10:30am on Tuesday, trucks loaded UPDF officers and the plain clothed Police officers arrived in Kamuli.

Police spokesperson for Busoga North, Michael Kasadha said the security operatives were there to provide security of the people and their property.

"There is no need to fear because Police is here to provide security to people's lives and property" he said.

Kasadha was however optimistic that with the help of security operatives from neighbouring districts, acts of violence will be contained with minimum effort.

Musumba however noted that she was to have a meeting with the Electoral Commission and inquire about Police's role.

Kamuli is holding the by-election after Watongola was ejected from Parliament for lack of minimum academic qualifications to become an MP.

Other people in the race are Samuel Walugyo, Proscovia Kanakutanda and Michael Kiboome.
