Govt: No talks with Besigye. Period

Government's spokesperson dismissed the remarks saying Besigye is doing all this for political "grandstanding and comedy"

Government has ruled out talks with former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Dr. Kiiza Besigye.

Speaking to FDC leaders in Teso on Tuesday in Soroti, the four-time presidential candidate said President Yoweri Museveni was seeking him out demanding for dialogue.

Ofwono Opondo the government spokesperson dismissed the remarks saying Besigye is doing all this for "political grandstanding and comedy".

He said no one in government has approached Besigye for talks and challenged Sweden to front evidence of such talks or the person who they are purporting to be the go-between.

"We would however want to challenge the Swedish government to come clean. Who in particular from government approached them?" Ofwono asked.

Besigye who still disputes the outcome of the 2016 presidential election blamed the government yesterday of imprisoning him before he could be allowed to prove to the world that he won the election.

"We can prove that they did not win the 2016 elections and that's why we have been asking for an audit," Besigye said on Tuesday.

Ofwono similarly rejected the claims and challenged Besigye to publish whatever evidence he has.

"Those that were dissatisfied with the election outcome went to the Supreme Court" he said, adding "No country, regional or international shall be accepted to meddle in the election results of Uganda."
