Local revenue to develop communities

He pointed out that by the time he went to Wakiso he found a lot of problems with the pay roll where workers mainly teachers had their names deleted and he has effectively solved the problem and wants to see that Wakiso communities are transformed economically.

"I have learnt that there is misuse of the money got from the local revenue because most of the money is spent on travels and workshops of which such activities have no impact on the communities," said Masokoyi.

He added that the communities must be empowered economically so that lower local governments can get money out of them saying that short of that they always complain of low revenue base.

"Lower local governments complain of low revenue sources but I have noted that lower local governments just luck innovation as far as local revenue is concerned," he said.

He further assured the Masuliita town council and the sub county leaders that the district is not going to give them any special money and they should forget about it but the district will help them improve their initiatives to increase on the local revenue.

Masokoyi is of the view that communities should engage in production mainly in agriculture but they need to be guided by the technical people in order to maximize profit adding that through agriculture Uganda can easily achieve the vision 2020 and 2040.

Masuliita sub county chief Evelyn Namugenyi highlighted some of the problems that hinder them from getting good local revenue that includes few technical staff, luck of transport to reach the communities to collect the revenue adding that they only collect 15m per year.
