The events start with a one-week squash championship at Kampala Club from 31st March

Deputy Katikkiro of Buganda Twaha Kawaase has called on the public to join the Kabaka's birthday celebrations regardless of their political affiliations, region or tribe.

Kawaase was speaking after welcoming the volleyball fraternity as one of the sports disciplines that will mark 62nd birthday of the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, with month long activities this year.

Omweso, cycling, squash, kigwo (traditional wrestling), swimming and athletics will stage events at this year's celebrations.

The games start this Friday and will be held at different venues as far as Mubende in the region.

"We want to spread out the games to have more than one day like it has been. It does not matter what religion you belong to, your tribe or your political affiliation, you can take part in the celebrations.

I call on the organisers of the different sports disciplines to spread the games beyond only a day," Kawaase flanked by sports minister Henry Sekabembe said.

He applauded the volleyball fraternity led by Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) vice president Patricia Ahumuza and Wakiso Volleyball Association general secretary Hassan Sekajoolo whose target of youth volleyball is in line with the event's theme of 'Kabaka and Educations'.

The events start with a one-week squash championship at Kampala Club from 31st March then other disciplines in between before concluding with wrestling at the newly established Lubiri High School, in Buloba on 13th April.

Vision Group CEO Robert Kabushenga who is the chairman of the organising committee of the Kabaka Birthday Run said this year's activities are meant to fight sickle cell disease.
