A few days after Saturday Vision published a story about 778 Police officers who have gone underground after failing to service their salary loans, Police have warned officers against defrauding on loans.

Police spokesperson, Andrew Felix Kaweesi told New Vision in an exclusive interview that there is no reason whatsoever why officers should defraud on loans. Kaweesi said that the money given out in loans to the officers comes from SACCOs and therefore belongs to subscribers.

The Saturday Vision story cited several financial institutions that have petitioned Police administration to intervene and help them track-down officers who have failed to service their loans. The affected financial institutions include Bayport Financial Services and Platinum Credit Uganda Ltd.

Kaweesi also revealed that Police will investigate reports that there is a scam in the force that fleeces junior police officers of their money before signing letters of undertaking for loans.

After the report in Saturday Vision, Police officers started coming out to explain why they are failing to service their loans and New Vision is following the developments of this story.
