Legislators who sit on the local government accounts committee have expressed dismay's over Parliament's decision to cut the committee's budget.

The legislators led by the committee chair, Reagan Okumu, are unhappy with the decision of Parliament to cut sh300m from their budget, citing the non-performance of the same committee in the 9th Parliament.

The legislators note this cut is not only going to cripple the work that has to be undertaken by the committee, but also affect the image of Parliament as a non performing entity.

Okumu says that his committee has managed to be among the few committees that have delivered results in the 10th Parliament and, therefore, should not be subjected to a budget cut.

"Their committee has been undermined, yet it has the largest number of MPs compared to other committees which have only 10 members. There are other committees which are idle, why didn't they cut their budgets?"

However, Okumu has reassured the MPs that Speaker Rebecca Kadaga has agreed to meet them to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
