Alex Cherotich allegedly shot two men dead and injured two others
A private bodyguard to Maj. Juma Seiko has been further remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of murder and attempted murder.
On Friday when Alex Cherotich's case came up for mention, prosecutor Emily Ninsiima informed court that investigations into the case were still ongoing. Court was presided over by Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate, Jameson Karemani.
"Your worship inquiries in the case are still on going. We pray that the case be further mentioned to enable us finalize the inquiries" Ninsiima said.
This prompted the Magistrate to adjourn the case to March 24, when the accused will be produced in court to know the status of the investigations.
Prosecution alleges that on December, 4, 2016 while at Seiko's residence in Nakasero, Kampala, Cherotich an ex-UPDF soldier shot Lameck Ogwang and Fred Ssembatya dead.
It further alleges that on the same day, he also injured David Ssenkubuge and Solomon Mugabi.
Murder attracts a maximum penalty of death on conviction while attempted murder attracts a maxim sentence of life imprisonment on conviction.
Ssenkubuge is a security supervisor at security firm SGA and Solomon Mugabi, is a bodaboda rider along Balintuma Road, in the city suburb of Mengo.
Cherotich was again not allowed to take plea because murder is a capital offence which is only tried by the High Court.
After the completion of the investigations, Cherotich will be committed to the High Court for trial.
Preliminary investigations indicate that there was mistaken identity on the fateful day when Mugabi, who lives in Seiko's homestead, returned from a bar with Katumba but did not brief Cherotich who opened fire on the pair.
