Senior UPDF officials transferred

Col. Paddy Ankunda (pictured) has been appointed the director of strategic communication under the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).

Several senior Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) officers have been transferred by the Chief of Defence Forces Maj. Gen. David Muhoozi, to different stations in and outside the country.

According to Maj. Henry Obbo, the deputy army spokesperson, the transfers are some of what he described as usual deployments in the army.

"These are normal deployments, we have transfers in the army and they are called tour of duty" he explained.

Among the transfers, Col. James Kaija, a long serving UPDF officer has been appointed the deputy chief of military intelligence in charge of international cooperation. He has been working as a staff member of Operation Wealth Creation.

"He has been appointed one of the assistants, in charge of defence engagements and matters related to international cooperation, with our international partners" army spokesperson Richard Brig. Karemire told New Vision in a phone interview.

Speaking following his appointment, Col. Kaija expressed readiness to take on the new task, as required.

"I'm a serving officer and where you are directed to go and work, you go. I have been in intelligence for most of my work, since 1986, I have gone through all the stages" he said.

In the new transfers, Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda, the former army spokesperson has also been appointed the director of strategic communication under CMI in Mbuya, Kampala.

Ankunda was one of the army officials affected by the January army reshuffle, when the Commander in Chief, President Yoweri Museveni announced changes to the top army command.

The changes, saw chief of defence forces Gen.  Edward Katumba Wamala and Maj Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the head of the Special Forces Command, replaced.

Other transfers

Maj. Gen. Okello has been transferred from Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre (URDCC), to Joint Chief of Staff.

Brig Stephen Oluka has been transferred from URDCC, to the Office of the Prime Minister.

In the new deployments, Brig. David Wakaalo has been transferred from URDCC, to Operation Wealth Creation.

Col. Henry Isoke has been transferred from CMI to the office of the Deputy Chief of Military Intelligence.

Brig. Godfrey Golooba has moved from the Junior Staff College (JSC) to Moscow, Col. Michael Kibuye has made the move from the Chieftaincy of Mubende Rehabilitation Centre (CMRC), to the department of Chief of Military Intelligence.

Col. Martin Ndyanabo has been transferred from the Fifth Division headquarters, to the Democratic Republic of Congo as head liaison.

In the transfers, Col. Bernard Obola has been transferred from C/COMDT, to D/CMRC, Col. Ceaser Bahwezi, has been transferred from D/INT and SYLF, to SCSC, Col Augustine Anywar, from CMI, to UPDRF D/INT, Col. Eunus Bagada from CMI, to UPDRF D/INT,  Col. Atwooki Ndahura, from URDCC, to CPA ATT UPF.

Others are Col. Irma, who has been transferred from DCT, to Mogadishu.  Lt. Col. Muhanguzi has been transferred from CPA Royal Guards, to D/COMD LT while Col Temple Asiimwe has been transferred from D/I&D affairs CMI, to D/protocol LT.

According to Maj. Obbo, the transfers take immediate effect and that the officers will be required to start work immediately.
