Father passes away day after son dies

Born in 1922, the late Silver Omasa Ekemu served as the District Police Commander Kapir in Ngora district

Philip Omaswa Ekemu, the father of the former Soroti Municipality MP Charles Willy Ekemu who died yesterday, has also died just a day after his son succumbed to cancer of the liver.

Omasa Ekemu, 94, died of a stroke at 11:08 am this morning at his home in Nakatunya, in Soroti Municipality after losing a long battle to high blood pressure which doctors at Mbarara hospital diagnosed in 1982.

Born in 1922, the late Philip Omaswa Ekemu served as a police officer during the Obote regime.

Joyce Ekemu, the widow of the deceased who confirmed the sad news to Etop radio noted that for the last two days, the old man has been on life feeding support at his home in Nakatunya where his body still lies.

Ekemu senior is survived by four widows. His body will be taken to Soroti mortuary, before being laid to rest on Tuesday along with his son Charles Willy Ekemu at their ancestral home in Atapar village in Kapir Sub County, Ngora district.
