Police in East Kyoga region have received 67 brand new Yamaha motor cycles from the government to help them maintain law and order.

Michael Odongo, the regional police spokesperson on Wednesday told New Vision that the motor cycles were delivered early this week.

East Kyoga region covers the eight districts of Katakwi, Kumi, Amuria, Soroti, Ngora, Kaberemaido, Bukedea and Serere Odongo said the motor cycles were given to officers manning the recently curved police station by the IGP General Edward Kale during his visit to the region late last year.

"Kaberamaido district received 11 motor cycles, Soroti10, Katakwi 10, Amuria 10, Bukedea, 06, Serere 09 and Ngora district got 05 motor cycles", Odongo said.

The PRO said the motor cycles were distributed basing on the number of police stations in each district, adding that they will be fueled and maintained by the officers using them.

"The gesture was in appreciation of the tremendous work of the police in securing lives and property in the country" he said while handing over the motor cycles to the beneficiaries of Soroti district.

The PRO warned the beneficiaries against misuse of the motor cycles saying that those who misuse the motor cycles risk being punished by the force.

He also charged the police to work harder, be honest and maintain good reputation in order to earn the respect of most Ugandans who view them in bad light.

The in charge Kamuda police station appreciated the government's gesture and assured them that  they would continue to do their best in providing adequate security for the state.

He said the gesture was overdue as government took long without responding to their request of motor cycles to facilitate their movement.
