Cricket: Jinja SS keen to excel in all formats

Feb 21, 2017

The club seeks to create a team that can favourably compete in the limited overs format too

Jinja SS will not have the services of Kevin Awino and Gorret Aleka for this season, team manager Habib Mugalula confirmed.

The Jinja outfit who are the reigning Sixes Challenge champions will however not have to look very far as they try to replace the duo.

"Their departure of course leaves behind a gap in the team but we are trying to introduce other girls from the school to the game of cricket that are eligible to participate in schools competitions" said Mugalula.

He further seeks to create a team that can favourably compete in the limited overs format in the National Women's League which has since been a thorny issue for the team.

The girls are more versed with the short format; T20 and by hell or high water, Mugalula looks set to outdo the challenge with the longer format of the game.

"Our main target this season is to create an all-round and solid team that can do both limited overs and T20" Mugalula added.

Kevin Awino has been one of Jinja SS' best wicketkeepers in the recent past and she's without a club at the moment having completed her A Levels. Gorret Aleka on the other hand joined Nyenga SS.
