How Badu shot down mighty Tornado

Many insiders have described Badu’s arrival as a conspiracy to check Tornado Cricket Club’s dominance

Has Tornado's stronghold on local cricket been shaken with the arrival of Bashir Ansasira?

That is the question being asked after Ansasira popularly known as Badu taking charge of UCA after edging Paul Nsibuka in a vote at the weekend.

Many insiders have described Badu's arrival as a conspiracy to check Tornado Cricket Club's dominance of the sport.

Nsibuka, a former national team captain, whose family also has strong roots in the sport, was seen by many as a favourite.

But there were also those who saw Nsibuka's rise to the chairmanship as an extension of the Tornado reign and were not about to allow that happen.

They did all in their means including convincing one of the three candidates Shukla Mukesh to back Badu.

The last move came at a huge cost as it involved the tough decision of Mukesh not even voting for himself. Badu's victory was paramount.

Such were the behind the scenes machinations. Now we have a new chairman.

Badu's rise also breaks a sequence that has over the past 12 years had UCA's leadership restricted to Tornado, Africa and Wanderers.

So what does Badu's arrival herald? Could the former national team manager's election be the catalyst that will revive the game?
Uganda's failure to rise from International Cricket Council's Division Three leaves a lot to be desired.

As Badu looks for that spark that will re-ignite the sport, there is also need to establish a number of development projects.

Amongst these should be the Kawuku High Performance Center. It should be about five years since the idea was mooted.

It was by all counts a brilliant idea. This facility was not only supposed to ease pressure on existing grounds like Lugogo and Kyambogo but also fine tune talent.

But for some still unclear reason this expanse of land has never been developed.

Isn't this the time to quantify how much talent would by now have been produced by the facility?

It's certainly not going to be easy for Badu. But the sooner the he starts making things happen the better.

It took a Deus Bukenya equalizer to save Vipers blushes in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Vipers were on the brink of being kicked out of the continental race by a novice when they clawed their way back.

But club patron Lawrence Mulindwa first had to crack the whip to get sense into the Kitende side.

After the team's goal-less draw at home Mulindwa threatened to sack the entire side. It's then that sense seemed to dawn on the players.

Mulindwa's seriousness is understandable. He has invested a fortune in the club.

Besides securing most of Uganda's best players, he also has one of the best salary scales in the region. So, there is supposed to be no excuse for laxity.

If he was tough in the preliminaries, then he might have to get even more ruthless in the next stage.
