Police cautions Karimojong herdsmen

The district police commander, Rogers Ssegua said, any herdsmen who commits offence will be dealt with according to the law.

The police in Lango sub-region have warned herdsmen against involving themselves in criminal activities. 
 
The caution followed the arrest and detention of two Karimojong herdsmen at Alebtong police station. The herdsmen are from Alololo parish in Omoro. They were charged with stealing cattle.
 
The district police commander, Rogers Ssegua said, any herdsmen who commits offence will be dealt with according to the law.
 
"We shall look for that person, arrest him and arraign him in court," Ssegua said.
 
Residents presented 15 criminal acts allegedly committed by Karamojong herdsmen which include; rape, destruction of crops, contamination of water sources, theft of livestock, uprooting cassava, setting bushes on fire and threatening Local Council officials.
 
At least 5,000 herdsmen crossed to the neighbouring districts of Otuke, Alebtong and Amuria after being hit by a prolonged dry spell. All the water sources and pastures have reportedly dried up.
