National boxing championship on

The 2017 National Open Boxing Championship has rolled off at Lugogo MTN Arena with 29 clubs participating in the elite, youth and junior categories.

The annual event had 33 bouts on day one.

This is the most lucrative event on the national calendar as its from the tournament where national team boxers are named.

The championship has attracted 141 elite boxers including all those who have been on the scene for a long time.

The Youth category has registered 26 Youths boxers while the Juniors are 19.

Seasoned boxer Gerald Aliga is among those who have been in the ring for a long time but fans contested his win saying it was unfair to upcoming boxer Akim Besigye who contested against him.
