African club hockey: Uganda's Weatherhead, Wananchi fired up

Weatherhead hockey club are fired up ahead of the Hockey Africa Club Championships that get underway Saturday at the City Park Stadium in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

They will test their abilities when they face some of Africa's elite clubs in the seven-day meet that has attracted a total of 19 teams - nine men and ten women clubs.

Emmanuel Wabuyaka, the captain of the men's side, believes his side should not be thought little about despite the presence of top dogs at the event.

"We have prepared enough for this event and ready to come back with some positives, " said Wabuyaka, who won the 2015 MVP of the National Hockey League.

Moses Tushabe, Erasmus Katwebaze, Emma Wabuyaka, Ashiraf Tumwesigye are expected to work the magic for the travelling side as Alum Siddy, Aisha Kagere, Vivienne Kigozi among others for the women's team.

Uganda will be represented by Wheatherhead and Wananchi clubs in the tournament where Easterners from Egypt and Kenya's Orange are the defending champions in the Men's and Women's categories respectively.

The two Ugandan sides depart on Thursday.
