The minister for Kampala, Beti Kamya, has decried resistance from street vendors in Kampala to vacate saying it is a big challenge to the city authorities.

She attributed this to some politicians who incite the vendors to resist vacating the streets.

"It is unfortunate that the people who pass these laws and regulations in the council meetings are the ones who incite the vendors to stay on streets," Kamya said.

She apologized for the brutal way street vendors are handled but hastened to add: "Each of our enforcement officers has got a scar inflicted on them from hostile vendors."

Kamya said her office will review the market dues if her office is petitioned. This, she said is the only way to lure vendors into markets.
