End of year review: Wananchi dominate hockey

The women’s title was decided on goal difference.

If you talk of Wananchi Hockey teams success this season, you can't fail to mention their top strikers Thomas Opio and Doreen Mbabazi.

Opio, the top scorer in the men's netted 20 goals this season to as the team retained the national league title after the final games at Lugogo,

Mbabazi scored 18 as her team emerged champions in the women's league.

Elsewhere, Weatherhead's Siddy Alum scored 31 goals to become the top scorer in the women's league.

But her team finished second overall.

Wananchi men's team ended the season with 37 points, nine points ahead of second-placed Weatherhead while Kampala were third at 23.

The women's title was decided on goal difference.

This was after Wananchi and Weatherhead tied at 37 points each.

Meanwhile Kampala Hockey club secured third position in the women's league with 27 points.

Other tournaments were held this year including the Easter Cup that saw Kampala HC clinch the title after beating closest rival Wananchi 2-1 in the final.

Wananchi men's team collected nine points in four games to reclaim the Weatherhead Open title they last won in 2013.

Deliverence Church won the women's trophy.

Kakungulu Memorial won all their matches in the boy's and girl's categories to retain their titles in the schools categories.

The winning teams vowed to step up gear next season.
