Activist leaves the country

Namutebi also says that her uncle who she declined to name, advised her to leave the country for her own safety.

A political activist, Sheena Oliver Namutebi has left the country saying she did not feel safe in the country anymore.

Namutebi who is also a member of the largest opposition party Forum for Democratic Change in Uganda just after the clash between the Rwenzururu Kingdom and security forces on November 26, 2016.

Atleast 55 people including 14 policemen during the attack on the palace compound and 100 people were reportedly injured. Among them were at least 15 children.

The government has since arrested and charged more than 180 people, including the cultural institutions king, known as the Omusinga, with murder, treason and terrorism.

"In November 2016, I decided to go to Kaseese to visit my aunt who is married to the Prime Minister of the Obusinge bwa Rwenzururu (Rwenzururu kingdom) Noah Nzanshale. I spent there three days when government forces invaded the palace of King Wesley Mumbere," Namutebi said.

"Many people were killed others wounded, while others were captured and put in prison together with the King. I managed to escape together with my aunt. The Prime minister was arrested. We hid at my uncle's house in Fort Portal."

Namutebi also says that her uncle who she declined to name, advised her to leave the country for her own safety.

"I took his advice seriously and I started working on my exit most especially after my aunt was named among the suspects wanted by government," Namutebi said.

Namutebi who also on the campaign team of Dr. Kizza Besigye in the central region in 2011, said she had already been in and out of police detention centers for participating in the walk to work and defiance campaigns organised the party immediately after the general elections in February 2016.
