The Uganda People's Congress (UPC) party president, Jimmy Akena has denounced the former party vice president Joseph Bbosa's plans to organize an extraordinary General Meeting.

Addressing journalists at the party's weekly press briefing at the party headquarters, Akena said Bbosa has no mandate to call for any meeting on behalf of the party.

Bbosa's faction has over time refused to recognize Akena as the UPC leader since the May 30, 2015 party elections. They allege that he (Akena) forcefully occupied the seat.

"UPC notes with great concern, actions and movement of persons defeated in the 30th May 2015 elections. We therefore want those whose intention it is to misuse party resources and Joseph Bbosa that the extraordinary General Meeting they are calling on 10th December 2016 is illegal, unconstitutional and in breach of good order of UPC and its conventional practices,"Akena noted.

UPC split into two factions following a disputed delegate's conference that elected Akena party president.

Akena warned all party members across the country to desist from the meeting.

"It has not been called by your leadership at UPC headquarters at Uganda House. Those who attend the said meeting will be held accountable," he added.

He said he has not called such a meeting, stressing that Bbosa only wants to mislead members.

Akena also called on Government to open up for dialogue with the Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere to iron out areas of disagreement that led to the impasse in Kasese.

He said the continued detention of Mumbere will not solve the problems in Kasese until government opens up for dialogue with the King of Rwenzururu.

The Government forces raided the Rwenzururu administration palace to flash out the royal guards who allegedly had rebel links, following an attack in which 16 police officers were allegedly killed in the area. Over 60 people died during the exchange of fire.

Mumbere was arrested and charged with murder at Jinja Magistrates Court while other 136 suspects are yet to appear before court.
