Former premier league side Mbale Heroes FC kicked off their 2016/2017 Eastern Region Football League campaign on a happy note after trouncing Malaba border based MYDA FC 2 - 0 in the opening match at Mbale Municipal Stadium.

In other opening matches Bugwere FC hammered hapless Mbale City 4-0 at Budaka Ssaza playground,  Busia United edged visiting Uganda Christian University FC 1-0 while at King George Stadium in Tororo town Galaxy FC settled for a-one-all draw against Mbale's CRO FC.

The regional promotional soccer action that has attracted 25 clubs placed in two groups from Busoga, Bukedi and Bugisu sub-regions also saw visiting Busamaga FC sharing spoils with Pallisa after their match ended in a one-all draw at Pallisa playground.
