Onito who was also looking for his first victory on home soil finished joint second
Jinja Golf Club's Brian Toolit two-over-par 74 was enough to win him the biggest share of sh10m as the professionals competition of the Kakira Open ended at Jinja Club on Friday.
Toolit who got three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 hole No.14, en-route to finishing joint top with Opio Onito after the first 18 holes on 71 gross each, followed it with another 3 birdies in the final round to win his first major tournament this year, and in three years at Jinja Club.
"It has been long since surgery on my left knee, about three years ago, but I put in a lot of time, so it was worthwhile," Toolit said.
Onito who was also looking for his first victory on home soil finished joint second with Lugazi's Ronnie Bukenya who improved his first round score by two strokes on level 72.
Entebbe's Robert Oluba and Kampala's Gerald Kabuye tied joint third on 148 gross while Deo Akope's 74 ensured he finished in fourth.
Last year's winner Saidi Mawa managed a top ten finish but only in 9th place behind Silver Opio and Denis Anguyo who carded 150 and 151 gross.
Palm Valley's Abraham Ainamani topped the amateurs competition
Palm Valley Golf and Country Club's Abraham Ainemani (148 gross) was the best among the top amateurs who played 36 holes alongside the professionals.
Kabale's Denis Kabalira at 150 finished second, with Jinja's Ismail Muhanood (153 gross) finishing joint third with Toro's Joseph Cwinya-ai.
