FDC recently shunned an IPOD meeting with President Yoweri Museveni

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has made a U-turn on subscribing to the Inter Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) with stringent terms and conditions.

FDC had suspended all its business with the IPOD arguing that the organisation had lost track especially in its goal of dialoguing with national leaders.

After a meeting with Democratic Party (DP) secretary general Mathias Nsubuga and Uganda People's Congress' Edward Segganyi at FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi, FDC president Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu said they decided to resume the leading opposition party's involvement in IPOD after other members agreed to their terms.

FDC recently shunned an IPOD meeting with President Yoweri Museveni saying that they were uncomfortable with meeting at State House.

Muntu emphasized that the party will only engage in meetings with the NRM party chair in another place of convenience other than State House.

"It plays to the President's advantage. Those of us who are actors in this situation must ensure that the country understands and will have to help him understand that there must be a separation. If he can't separate himself then it is our responsibility to make sure that separation is established" Muntu stated.

He further stressed that FDC is currently discussing the issues surrounding the appointment of a new independent electoral commission after the expiry of the term of Eng. Badru Kiggundu and his commission.

"The Electoral Commission has been at the core of all the problems we've had since 2001" Muntu pointed out.
