Soroti Municipality has received an allocation of sh62m under Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP) from the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
The money is intended to support women to establish their own business.
According to Moses Ecuru the deputy mayor Soroti Municipality, it’s majorly women who are expected to benefit from this program although girls who are above 18 years of age are entitled.
“Women should begin forming groups and register them with us in order to benefit from the program” Ecuru stated.
He noted that government will first train women before receiving the money to avoid defaulting.
However, Ecuru told New Vision that they have already begun to train their technical stuff under the ministry and soon their councillors will also be trained to help them in sensitizing communities about the program.
Meanwhile Isaac Elakuna the speaker Soroti Municipal Council says the money will indeed support women to open their own business although it is little.
