The Chinese business fraternity in Uganda has been urged to teach the Ugandans they work with the values of efficiency and hard work.

While speaking at Ecobank Uganda's annual Chinese forum at Arirang Hotel in Kampala, Kin Kariisa a board member at the bank, revealed that he was impressed by the working ethos of Chinese people when he stayed in the country in the past.

"I opened a bank account in China, and it took me only five minutes to open this account and this is maybe about 15 years ago. Five minutes. That is how efficient Chinese are," he said.

"Chinese are so hard working that a sweeper who sweeps that bank floor fixes a faulty ATM. Here you need a technician to do this. We want you to teach Ugandans these traits of hard work and time keeping. If you have an appointment with a Chinese at 2pm, they will make it there on time."

He also revealed that Chinese businessmen in Uganda will soon be able to access the Chinese payment platform, UnionPay in Uganda.

"Soon, you will be able to access UnionPay. I lived in China for some time, and I know that whereas other places have Visa and others, you (Chinese) have your own (UnionPay)," he said.

With UnionPay, Chinese nationals in Uganda will be able to access their money across all ATMs of Ecobank Uganda.

Clement Dodoo, the managing director of Ecobank Uganda hailed the Chinese business fraternity for their faith in Africa, which is despised by many western companies.

Chinese companies have a strong business footing in Uganda, especially in areas such as road construction, and the extractives industry.
