Parents in Teso sub-region have been urged to teach their children good moral values and respect for the marriage institution as they grow up.

This follows worrying cases of broken marriages in the region.

Sarah Okodu, the former Mothers' Union coordinator for the Anglican Church in Soroti diocese said parents should make their children know that commitment and self-sacrifice are very essential for a successful marriage.

She urged women in Teso land to be promoters of the loving spirit motherhood and development oriented for prosperity of their families.

Simon Okurut, the district chairperson Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) in Serere advised people in courtship to properly study one another before entering into formal marriage.

He warned people who are dating should not rush into marriage ill prepared as this leads to broken marriage.

Okurut however expressed concern over the increasing cases of domestic violence which he says is a bad practice that must end.
