Musa Tibakirana the Kabarole District Police Commander says private Muranda died on spot after he was stabbed several times.
The police and the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) in the Rwenzori region are investigating circumstances under which an officer was murdered in a bar row last night.
The deceased has been identified as Private Muranda Muhamad attached to the 3rd division in Moroto district.

The incident took place at Nyabuswa trading center in the mountainous sub county of Karangura in Kabarole District.
Lt Amos Nsamba the UPDF spokesperson for Rwenzori region said that yesterday's incident is not at all related to the recent tribal clashes in Rwenzori region.
"We suspect it could have been a village wrangle but not tribal given the fact that the deceased was a Mukonzo and more so the incident took place in the Bakonzo community" Nsamba said.
His body has been taken to the Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
