New Mr. Uganda body building champion awaits

Nov 03, 2016

With Lukwago out of the way, all eyes will be on Mr. Kampala Andrew Ssenoga who in September won the Germany International Bodybuilding Championships in Siegen.

The Mr. Uganda Body Building title will be up for grabs when over 60 musclemen fight for the title at Freedom City Auditorium on November 20.

With defending champion Ben Lukwago opting out of an international event in Italy in June, the championship is now open for a new winner, in the second event on the Uganda Body Building and Fitness Association (UBBFA) calendar.

"I just won this event early this year, so I want to aim for something bigger from the international scene, so I will not defend the title," Lukwago said, after the launch of this year's championship at Freedom City.

With Lukwago out of the way, all eyes will be on Mr. Kampala Andrew Ssenoga who in September won the Germany International Bodybuilding Championships in Siegen.

But as the Mr. Kampala championship showed, Ssenoga knows it will not be a walk in the park, though he is determined to fine tune in the remaining time to emerge champion.

"I'm just trying to enforce what I started, because I'm looking at winning even bigger things internationally. As you can see the competition is high and my opponents are looking good but I will just continue training and employ my secret formula to win," Ssenoga noted.

His immediate challenger Joel Byron who was runner up in the Mr. Kampala championship also feels he can win his first Mr. Uganda title after adding on weight and a change in diet and hopes to improve on his definition before the championship.

Addressing the press UBBFA secretary Richard Ssentongo said the championship is open to musclemen from gyms affiliated to the governing body. He said each competitor will pay a participation fee of sh10, 000.

Freedom City Mall marketing manager Andrew Katongole said they were committed to extending support to UBBFA in their pursuit of nurturing and growing talent.

Category winners in the Bantam, Welter and Light, Middle, Light Heavy and Heavy categories will walk away with cash and medals. The ladies; Irene Kasuubo and Hafswa Nalumansi will also be on show in a muscle modelling exhibition.

The championship is sponsored by Freedom City, Nuit A' Paris Gym, University of Pain and Fit for Life Gym.
