Prices of kerosene, petrol and fuel reduced

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures released by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) on Monday at Statistics House indicate that Inflation for the month ending October declined to 4.1% from 4.2% that was recorded in September.

CPI is the official measure of price movements in a basket of goods and services over a given period of time.

Dr. Chris Mukiza the director macroeconomic statistics at UBOS attributed the drop in annual inflation to the decrease in prices of food crops from 5.0% to 1.7% and a deceleration of Energy Fuel and Utilities (EFU) to minus 1.9% for the period under review compared to 4.3% recorded in September.

"Prices of fruits and vegetables such as bugga, nakati, pineapples and mangoes have reduced," Mukiza said.

Under the EFU, prices of kerosene, petrol and fuel also reduced.

However, core inflation - which excludes food, fuel, electricity and metered water which are volatile to price changes increased from 4.1% in September up to 5.1% in October.
