Uganda maintains lead at the East African Golf Challenge

Heading into the final stretch Uganda is ahead on 11 points, one more than Kenya who collected the same points on the day

The Uganda national golf team continued to brighten their chances of retaining the East African Golf Challenge when they won five more games on the second day of the tournament at the Addis Ababa Golf Club on Friday.

Heading into the final stretch Uganda is ahead on 11 points, one more than Kenya who collected the same points on the day in the foursomes and the four-ball-better ball rounds.

In the foursomes Uganda's pair of Daniel Baguma and Martin Ochaya beat Ethiopia's Elias and Tesfaye 6&5 while Joseph Cwinya-ai and Ronald Rugumayo were also winners over Tanzania's Nyanze and Adam 3&2.

Uganda Captain Becca Mwanja and Rodwell Gaita were also victors over Rwanda's Afrodis Nyirikwaya and Leonard Nkurunziza 3&2.

The Kenyan pair of Daniel Nduva and Alfred Nandwa proved a hard nut for the Uganda pair of Ronald Otile and Adolf Muhumuza who they lost to 2&1 despite putting up strong resistance.

Hosts Ethiopia were the most improved side on the day winning six game (6pts) to close in on the leaders.

The annual championship ends today with a singles round in the three-day match play tournament.
