Fun affair at the wine and mammography evening

Oct 26, 2016

Friends, women, men, colleagues and all the curious people gathered at the rooftop to talk breast cancer but in a chill and fun manner as wine, cheese and crackers were served.

October has been all about breast cancer awareness and Thursday was all about wine, fun, conversations, bonding and sharing at the first ever wine and mammography evening at the Village mall Bugolobi.

Friends, women, men, colleagues and all the curious people gathered at the rooftop to talk breast cancer but in a chill and fun manner as wine, cheese and crackers were served.

Guests were settled in and once they had had a few glasses of wine and snacks and got to know each other, it was time to take them through a few fitness drills. The host made sure it was an evening full of fun, learning and sharing about cancer.

Benard Tabon from FitcliqueAfrica led the workouts with yoga and Tae Bo which is a total body fitness system that combines martial arts techniques such as kicks and punches. That got everybody alert and smiling and it was time for Leticia Babirye from bra world to demonstrate and give professional advice to the ladies present on how to find the correct bra fitting and take good care of their breasts.

But powerful on the night was Olinka Rubadiri's story. She was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer nine years ago then given a clean bill of health.

Unfortunately it was discovered later that she had cancer again. Now she has to undergo chemotherapy every three weeks to contain her aggressive cancer.

Rubadiri yearly runs the pink affair crusade and is passionate about breast cancer awareness and even more passionate about life with good reason.

Hers is to share her story and encourage more people to take cancer seriously and what better way is there than over a glass of wine.

For Dr Nanduala Mutema Executive Director and physician at The Clinic found at the village mall and host of the night, information sharing especially in a relaxed environment is a powerful avenue of overcoming cancer.

"This is our first ever wine and mammography, we shall definitely have more," she says
