Over 2000 women equipped with business skills in Amuria District

The training organized by Destiny Community Development Initiative (DCODI) a non-government organization was focused on skilling the women and the youth in the two districts of Soroti and Amuria with knowledge of being successful entrepreneurs

In an attempt to empower and transform the lives of women in the rural communities in Amuria district, Over 2000 Women have been equipped with business skills.

A five day's training held at Opuyo child development centre in Soroti district was meant to absorb single mothers, widows and other groups of women interested in acquiring knowledge and skills of succeeding in business.

The training organized by Destiny Community Development Initiative (DCODI) a non-government organization was focused on skilling the women and the youth in the two districts of Soroti and Amuria with knowledge of being successful entrepreneurs  

Speaking to new vision in an interview, Rita Adupo, the field director DCODI said that the training was organized after realizing that women fail in business compared to men and the motive is to promote gender balance in business.

She noted that among businesses they are interested in equipping women with include; selling agricultural produce, commercial farming, among other avenues of income generation

Adupo identified ignorance among women on how to maintain working capital in business as a greatest disaster to their failure in business.

In the training, Charles Ocici, the Executive Director Enterprise Uganda said that women fail in business because they lack knowledge on how to do the best of business.

He noted that some women fail in business because they luck direction of advancing in business, stating that many women are abandoned in families and there is need to empower them through business education.

Ocici warned women against jealousy identifying it as one of the reasons to failure of the women to effectively compete with men in many activities of mankind.

"Desist from being jealous because it will not earn you any good but focus on what you want to achieve no matter how people criticize you" Ocici warned women.

DCODI has continued transform woman in Teso region who are interested in being successful entrepreneurs right from the time of its launch in 2007.

It has also trained over 1000 youth on top of women and given cows to the 31 groups of Amuria.
