Bukedea gets over sh60b for piped water

Bukedea District has earmarked sh67b for connecting piped water to four sub counties.

The funds provided will be spent on the connection of piped water in the four sub counties of; Kolir, Malera, Kachumbala and Kidongole.

While speaking to New Vision after the meeting that was held at Noah's Ark Hotel in Kapchora District on 13.10.2016., Moses Olemukan Ochom the District Chairperson Bukedea said that Bukedea Gravitational water (BGW) will be the project to conduct water connection.

District Councilors of Bukedea, Health officials and Moses Olemukan agreed that the project will have five water tanks that will keep, treat water and supplies to all the sub counties in the District.

"Inadequacy of water in the District has been singled out as the leading cause of increasing domestic violence in households where women are the sufferers, "says Olemukan.

He said that women in Bukedea grow older at a young age because it takes them five miles on foot to search for water with pots/jerricans on their head on daily basis.

Olemukan is optimistic that this will reduce the long distances that women have been trekking in the search for clean water.
