Parents have been advised to desist from using charms with a belief that it will help their children succeed in exams.

"Exams are a time of great stress, where students are seeking to achieve sky-high results but this should not prompt parents to give their children charms to pass exams," Fr. Herman Zziwa has warned.

He sounded the warning during a blessing ceremony for students of Uganda Martyrs' S.S. Namugongo at the Namugongo basilica. Senior four students start their final O'level exams on Monday.

In his sermons, the priest warned children against cheating in the exams, advising them to always make sure they are in the exam room on time, if they are to achieve success.

"Whatever the cultural differences, this is the time where all students have their own rituals and superstitions, whether it is playing a lucky song, eating special food or even wearing a pair of lucky pants," he said.

He stated that victory and success comes to those who are prepared, hardworking and determined. "Remember to pray, eat well and rest enough". He added that lack of preparation and panic leads to failure.

Donning black t-shirts, the S.4 students led the mass, singing songs of praise and performing cultural dances to hundreds of parents gathered at the church to wish their children success.

Recalling their four years journey, Immaculate Namuwonge said they lost one of their fellow students who was instrumental in mentoring them, prompting parents and student to observe a moment of silence and she asked God to let his soul rest in peace.

She thanked the parents, teachers for their support in mentoring them.
Dr. Jane Fualal Odobu who represented the parents thanked the School management for playing a parental role in nurturing their children, adding that most parents spent less time with their children.

Fr. Henry Kasasa, the head teacher of the school thanked the parents for supporting the school, saying they are what they are because of them.

He advised the candidates to keep on promoting the image of the school because they are ambassadors of Uganda Martyrs' Secondary School Namugongo.
