The International Day for Disaster Reduction is celebrated every 13th day of the Month of October, it was first commemorated in 1989, following a call from the United Nations General Assembly. In Uganda the National celebrations will take place in Kasese Town. The UN General Assembly sees International Day for Disaster Reduction as a way of promoting a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction, which includes disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness.
