Amuria authorities seize gambling machines

The machines are blamed for the rising thefts and poverty in the area.

Gambling machines have been seized in the sub-counties of Willa and Kuju in Amuria district during an operation by police following a recent district council resolution.

Robert Okitoi Erisat, the district chairperson, said the machines were picked from Alereke and Wila trading centers.

It is the first such operation in the area and Erisat said they will continue with the crackdown in other sub-counties, including the town council where such machines are reportedly hidden.

He blamed the increasing thefts and poverty in the district to the presence of these gambling machines.

The machines were taken to Amuria Central Police Station awaiting collection by the owners.

"We don't want these betting machines in Amuria because they have resulted in the increasing thefts and the youth have sold land, motorcycles and a few animals they have among others," said the chairman.
