First female arch deacon in Busoga installed

Busoga diocese has created two new arch deaconries in a bid to extend services closer to the people.

The two new arch deaconries are Busesa , Ivukula  in Iganga, Namutumba districts respectively .

The bishop of Busoga diocese,Paul Naimanhye while speaking during the installation ceremony of  Canon Robina Bamulesewo as the arch deacon of Busesa archdeaconry held at St .Stephens church  said majority of Christians have previously been moving for long distances attend prayers on Sundays.

"You have previously been complaining about travelling for long to attend church services but now it's here there is no excuse to miss church on Sundays"he said

Naimanhye said the new arch deaconry of Busesa will cover parishes of Bumonzo,Bulyasime,Kalulu and Bukoteka all located in Ibulanku sub county, while Ivukula will cover Kiibale,Kirongo,and Buwungilo.

He urged the new archdeacons to be strong and always accept to be insulted by Christians.  "When you are in office people will talk all kinds of nonsense against you but just remain focused to serving the church "he said

Naimanhye cautioned Christians to avoid using words of hatred which are likely to cause divisions within the church.

"We (Christians) are all equal and will be accountable to God on the day of judgment "he said

He asked Christians to always donate generously towards the smooth running of church activities and avoid simply criticizing church leaders. "Surprisingly those who like criticizing church leaders don't even offer anything to towards the church but are good at making noise "he said

Bamulesewo ,42 becomes the first woman to be installed as arch deacon since the inception of Busoga diocese in 1974.Bamulesewo now will be able to wed couples carry out baptism on behalf of church of Uganda.

In her acceptance speech Bamulesewo promised to serve the Christians at all times and promised to put things right whenever there was any mistake."I promise to be there for my people at all times"she said

She hailed her husband for supporting her to attain the position of arch deacon.

A prominent businessman Alfred Okurut donated a brand new motorcycle enable the new arch deacon carry out her duties effectively by reaching out to Christians deep in rural areas.

There was excitement amongst Christians who danced to the tunes of gospel songs immediately the new arch deacon was installed by the bishop.

Some of the Christians said they had waited for long and thought they would never realize their dream.

According to the former deputy governor bank of Uganda,Perezi  Bukumunhe said the number of Christians has been increasing yet there was need for St.Stephen to be elevated to become an archdeaconry.

Bukumunhe said he was very optimistic that the new arch deacon will help unite Christians in the area during the time she will be in office.She has displayed her administrative skills before and I know she has the capacity to deliver "he said
