MP Orot dragged to court over lack of papers.

On Tuesday morning a voter of Kanyum through her lawyers M/s Ochieng Associated advocates and solicitors and M/s Ambrose Tebyasa and co Advocates filed a petition at Soroti High court seeking electoral commission to set aside his election and conduct fresh elections for Kanyum constituency.

He was among the lucky newcomers in the 10th Parliament to catch the President eye to be appointed state minister for works.The Kanyum county MP in Kumi district Ismael Orot's (NRM) joy was immediately cut short when the Appointments committee of Parliament rejected to approve him on grounds of lack of requisite academic papers.

On Tuesday morning a voter of Kanyum through her lawyers M/s Ochieng Associated advocates and solicitors and M/s Ambrose Tebyasa and co Advocates filed a petition at Soroti High court seeking electoral commission to set aside his election and conduct fresh elections for Kanyum constituency.

"The respondent (Orot) at his nomination presented an "O" level certificate in the names of Ikadarot Stephen who is his relative claiming the same belong to him whereas not and the same applied to his "A" level certificate," the petition read in part.

Ikiror who lost to Orot during the NRM primaries states in her petition that Orot should refund all the monies he illegally been drawing while serving as the LC5 of Kumi for 15 years.
"For the last 15 years, the 1st respondent had occupied the office of the chairman LCV Kumi district using the impugned academic documents and illegally drawing salaries and allowances," reads the petition.

The petition was received by High court clerk Robert Ecutu. The case will be heard by Justice David Bafema the newly posted resident judge. Joshua Kizza one of the advocates who filed the case said that the case is within the confines of the law.

He explained that they were headed to serve Orot with the copy of the petition and Orot shall be required to file his defense with 15 days upon receipt of the petition.Though Orot claimed to be in possession of a diploma he obtained from Uganda College of Commerce in Soroti, Ikiror in her petition regard it as an illegal diploma.

Embattled Orot trounced the FDC strong man Eng. Patrick Amuriat formerly MP for Kumi County before Kanyum was created. Two other candidates that lost to Orot included Moses Otule and Simon Okwalinga
