Uganda's 2012 Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich will be the chief runner of this year's sickle cell run.

Steven Kiprotich who is expected to participate in both the 10 and 5km races has been entrusted with the task to open and close the Sunday's event slated to start from Kati-Kati grounds Lugogo.

This was confirmed by the general secretary of the Pharmaceutical society of Uganda ( PSU )Samweul Opio at the event's press conference.

"We invite the entire public to join us in this year's sickle cell run and our chief runner will be Stephen Kiprotich," Opio said.

He added," Proceeds from this fundraising event will go towards the construction of sickle cell treatment Hospital in Namalere Kawanda."
