Vision Group rolls out Cranes souvenir magazine

Sep 22, 2016

The magazine captures everything about Uganda’s participation in Africa’s biggest competition right from its maiden outing in 1962.

Vision Group has rolled out Uganda's first ever Africa Cup of Nation magazine.

The 112 page souvenir publication that went on sale countrywide early this week, is selling at sh10,000.

"Over the years, The New Vision has traditionally produced souvenir football magazines for international championships.  We have had special collections on The Premiership, FIFA World Cups and Netball World Cup.

"But the Cranes souvenir magazine is the biggest of all. It's a special tribute to our national football team. We have relied on a team of experts to review Uganda's 38 year-old journey to the ‘Promised Land' in Gabon. It's basically an all-inclusive package that you won't find anywhere," New Vision Sports Editor Fred Kaweesi stated.

Kaweesi says the magazine captures everything about Uganda's participation in Africa's biggest competition right from its maiden outing in 1962.

"Solid articles by our lead sports writers, in depth interviews with top figures and great pictures telling Uganda's Nations Cup story, form the package."

Education and Sports Minister Janet Museveni congratulates the Cranes and uses the same publication to emphasize sports.

The First Lady uses the same publication to emphasize the importance government attaches to sports.

Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevich gives an insight into how they broke the 38 year jinx of Uganda's absence from the final tournament of the Nations Cup.

Historicals like Bidandi Ssali also give an account of how Uganda soared to its best ever football moment in 1978.

Former Finance Minister Gerald Ssendaula, who was FUFA president in 1978, and Omar Ahmed, an SC Villa executive member until 2001, give the magazine a special dimension.

They tell FUFA what should be done if Uganda is to put up a meaningful show in Gabon.

The magazine is available at all the major supermarkets in the country.
