The Rugby Cranes 7s coach Tolbert Onyango has handed Eric Kasiita the captaincy for the Africa 7s and Safari 7s tournament in Nairobi this weekend.

Kasiita is one of the most experienced players on the team having played at the Commonwealth Games, Safari 7s last year and has been a hooker on the national 15s team the Rugby Cranes.

"We are trying to build a 7s team, so we decided to take a developing side with a few experienced players and I think Kasiita has had enough exposure and can lead the others well" Onyango said.

Onyango expressed optimism for the outcome of the trip saying that he expects his side to give its best and post better results than last year.

The Rugby Cranes 7s team won only one game in the last edition, beating Burundi 55-0 to go with a 12-10 loss to Zambia in the Shield final, a 22-21 loss to Brazil as well as a 24-0 defeat to Zimbabwe.

The team which departs on Thursday includes Kasiita, Ramathan Govule, Pius Ogena, Philip Wokorach, Kevin Keremundu, Denis Etwau, Lawrence Ssebuliba, Adrian Kasito, Okias Solomon, Alhaj Manano and James Odongo.

Officials are Onyango, Michael Wandera (team manager) and Robert Luboja (physio).
