Parliament should embrace criticism - DP

DP spokesperson Kenneth Paul Kakande said the media should be left to perform its duties

The Democratic Party (DP) has castigated Parliament for attacking the media for writing negative stories regarding MPs' extravagance saying they are not exempted from any public criticism.

Last week the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga attacked the media alleging that there are some media houses being used by politicians to demonize Parliament before the public.

DP spokesperson Kenneth Paul Kakande said the media should be left to perform its duties independently and if any MP is aggrieved, they should sue the media house instead of issuing threats.

"The press has already suffered enough from the Executive and Police. Parliament should not add salt to the wounds but should be exemplary and should be the pride of the nation and not the curse.

MPs represent the people of Uganda and what they do must be transparent" Kakande said.

Kakande has also cautioned Kampala Central MP Muhammed Nsereko against attack the Jobless Brotherhood for protesting against MPs' extravagance.
